Meditation Practices and Benefits Explained

 

In its simplest form, meditation is simply the practice of using the breath to still and calm the mind and experience feelings of peace, connection and the limitless potential of being present with yourself, Spirit, the Universe and all that is.  It is about just being in your own space, taking time for self-care, love and nurturing, quietening the ‘monkey chatter’ of the mind, gaining clarity in your daily life, being more present with self and others, raising your spiritual vibration to help with connecting to spirit, guides, angels and loved ones as well as to your authentic self.  When you participate in a meditation practice you are essentially taking a journey into your own truth, connecting your head and heart, getting in touch with your inner knowing and intuition, sitting with your authentic self and opening your energy bodies physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to receiving all that is good and loving for you.

 

Undertaking a meditation practice is not necessarily about finding hours on end to sit with your legs crossed, eyes closed and saying ‘Om’s’, remember meditation is simply about focusing your attention on the breath!   One of the quickest and most convenient ways to still the mind and come to a space of peace, connection and presence is to simply take a few slow deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth, continuing to do this until you feel relaxed, clear and peaceful.  You can do this anywhere and at anytime, to suit and fit your lifestyle, for example while washing the dishes, cleaning the house, handing out the washing, taking a shower, going for a walk, at the gym, sitting in a park, waiting at the traffic lights etc etc.  It is important to understand that different techniques will suit different people, it is up to you to decide what fits and feels right for you, so choose what feels most comfortable - no one method is better than another - they are all fundamentally the same.

 

By simply taking a few minutes to focus on the breath, you allow yourself to connect back with your authentic self, to come back to the present moment, consciously connecting with your heart and the authentic self so that you are more aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions and what feels good and loving for you.  A meditation practice requires dedication, commitment and patience and has many benefits for you personally and your everyday life including:

  • A deeper understanding of yourself and your own true nature

  • Easier to attract and manifest positive situations, experiences and opportunities in your life

  • Ability to release and let go of any fears, doubts, worry, judgements, stress, uncertainty or insecurities

  • Better balance between the physical and spiritual worlds as well as between the head and the heart

  • Ability to become aware of, slow or control the ‘monkey mind’ or any mental chatter throughout your day

  • Increases your awareness and connection with Spirit, allowing you to more easily trust in self, your intuition and in your connection

  • Ability to gain insights, clarity and guidance into situations and experiences in order to find solutions

  • More objectivity and clarity in your decision making and choices in life

  • Improves your relationship with self and others as you allow love to flow quickly and easily

Meditation is simply a beautiful process to allow you to come back to and connect with you, which in turn allows you to embrace your inner wisdom, understand who you are at the core of your being, gain insights to support you on your journey and to learn, grow and develop as a soul.
